Configuring Windows 2000 for Internet Use

Connect your cable modem to your computer via the ethernet port.  Once you have done so, do the following:

Click on Start. Move the cursor up to Settings and over to Control Panel. Click on Control Panel to open that window.

Locate and double-click the Network and Dial-up Connections icon in the Control Panel.

Locate and right-click the Local Area Connection. Select properties from the grey pop-up menu.

Highlight the line labeled Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click the Properties button below.

Click the “radio button” next to Obtain an IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Server Information Automatically.

Click the OK button at the bottom of the window. Click the CLOSE button at the bottom of the following window.
